Grade 6 modeled how viruses spread from person to person by sharing "bodily fluids" aka water mixtures in cups. Students mixed water with at least 2 other students. We started with 3 infected and ended up with 11 infected. We then put our detective caps to see if we could uncover the 3 original infected classmates. The children loved this hands-on experiment!
In 5th grade literature class, students completed reading the Newbury Award Winning classic, Shiloh. Throughout the book, students took time to analyze characters, make connections to the text, and complete chapter comprehension pages. After completing the book, students enjoyed the mild weather and sat outside in a reading circle to discuss the conclusion and their thoughts on the book.
SHS was fortunate to have three very insightful presentations on Monday for Catholic Schools Week: The pre-k thru 1st grade enjoyed a presentation by Sherry Cirone, author and founder of Ella's Way. The children delighted in the reading of her book, "Ella & The All-Stars". Grades 2-4 were treated to a presentation by current parent and author, Mrs. Raquel Quezada. Mrs. Quezada is the author of "Breaking the Barriers of Disabilities."
