Fifth Grade
News
Dear Future Fifth Grader,
We are looking forward to having you as a Fifth Grader at Sacred Hearts School in September. Because we can never stop learning, you have a Summer reading assignment that will keep you reading and thinking. You are required to read two assigned books and keep a reading log of all the books that you read.
The first required book is Time Cat by Lloyd Alexander. Once you have read the book, you will choose a chapter to write about. You will write one paragraph describing the chapter setting. The paragraph should be a minimum of five well-written sentences. The second required book is My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. Once you have read this book, you· will complete three journal entry pages of your own summer experiences. These journal entries should include descriptive details. You may include sketches and diagrams although there must be more writing than drawing. Additionally, you will be tested on your understanding of My Side of the Mountain within the first week of school. You also have a Math packet to be completed over the summer. All of the assignments are due on the first day of school. Enjoy your summer and we'll see you in September.
Also, don't forget to check the Supply List to ensure that you are prepared!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bratland & Mrs. Driscoll SHS Fifth Grade Team
Information about upcoming assignments and other classroom information can be found at Mrs. Bratland's Schoolnotes page. Simply click into the "Students" area and type in the zip code of the school (01835), and find Mrs. Bratland's name in the list. Schoolnotes pages are provided as a convenience for parents and students; however, the classroom agenda book should always be looked to as the first source of information on assignments.
