Grade News
Dear Incoming Second Graders and Families,
We hope you had a fantastic year in first grade! It is always hard to believe when a year comes to an end and you start thinking about the expectations for the following year. As we always say, time flies by! We are looking forward to having you all in our classrooms next year and getting to know you each individually. We have heard wonderful things from Mrs. Caproni and Mrs. Cedrone about your class!
In order to prepare you for second grade, we would like to inform you with our summer expectations. The number one expectation is to have fun and relax with your family! It is important to get rest over the summer to feel revived for a productive school year! We expect you will all read the assigned summer reading book, Henry and Mudge and the Big Test, by Cynthia Rylant. We would also like you to pick another Henry and Mudge book of your choice to read and bring both books to school on the first day of school. We will have fun activities prepared connected to our summer reading. We will do a lot of writing in second grade, therefore, we ask that you continue to practice writing as you keep a journal over the summer. Try to write in it once a week including the highlight of your week.
In order to be prepared with supplies for the year, we ask that the children are sent to school with the following items:
A small standard size art box (about 9"x 6") A package (about 12) of#2 pencils
Glue sticks
Scissors
A box of 24 crayons
A small pencil sharpener Erasers
2 durable folders
One roll of paper towels One box of tissues
A standard size box of thick markers
Besides the supplies listed above, please also bring in $5.00 to pay for your school planner, and a photograph of yourself having fun this summer - we'll use the photo for an in-class project.
Please make sure the kids are not sent to school with overwhelming amounts of art supplies. It causes problems when they have more art supplies than others and with all their books, it is really hard to fit everything in their desks. It is important that they have only enough supplies that will fit in their art box.
We wish you all a wonderful, restful summer! We will look forward to meeting each and every one of you on the first day of school.
Gratefully,
Mrs. Malo & Mrs. Kirmes
