What can our school families do?

"Give, and gifts will be given to you."(Luke 6:38)

One of the most important things we can teach our children is to recognize and embrace their unique gifts, and to freely share those with the world. Being loving and generous with our God-given gifts is one of the ways that we demonstrate our faith in an active way. Here at Sacred Hearts School opportunities abound for living our faith by helping others, giving of our time and talents, and supporting the school and parish community. Here are just a few ways:
  • Participate in school events, such as the Fall Festival or the Principal's Cup Golf Tournament. Participate in parish events, such as Parish Picnics. Volunteer to help run an event, such as Tuesday night Bingo.
  • Support school fundraisers and encourage friends and neighbors to support them as well. Clip Boxtops for Education, purchase Scrip cards, use the GoodShop portal to do your online shopping. Support the school Book Fair. Bring items to the school Recycling Fundraiser. Encourage friends, neighbors, and other family members to participate.
  • Encourage your children to server as altar servers in the parish. Attend mass as a family. Share with your children the value you place on education, and the reasons why you have chosen to give them a Catholic education. Model through your words and actions what being a good, responsible, and supportive member of a school and parish community looks like. Join your child at Mass and Breakfast Club during Lent. Join the entire school at First Friday Mass.
  • Give as you are able to help the needy, through such activities as food drives for the parish food pantry or dress-down days for various charitable causes. Sponsor a child on the SHS Walk for Hunger team.
  • Serve on a committee, build a school float for the Haverhill Santa Parade, help create a Halloween Family Night, organize a Father/Daughter or Mother/Son event, or serve as a school ambassador during Open Houses or Back to School nights. Become active in the school PTO.
  • Share your time/talents with children by leading a club or group. Chess Club, Destination Imagination, Newspaper, Robotics...or do you knit, scrapbook, do photography, dance, write, etc? Share something you're passionate about by teaching it to the next generation. Coach a sport.
  • Support local businesses, especially those run by school and/or parish families. Share the good news of our school with others.

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith, but does not have works?
(James 2:14)

What do our students do?

  • Collect for the needy, through our Parish Food Pantry, holiday food drives or adopt-a-family programs, or toy or winter coat drives.
  • Run anti-bullying awareness events and team-building activities
  • Plan and run social events to encourage a sense of community and fun
  • Help with the Haverhill Kindergarten Fire Safety program
  • Plan and participate in special patriotic and religious assemblies, to strengthen and honor our commitment to God and country
  • Serve as altar servers during mass; participate in the parish youth group
Future plans include: collecting for the local animal shelter, adopting a park in the Bradford area, and planning a St. Patrick's-themed dance.
Our faculty strive to help students develop into confident and capable individuals with high academic expectations, an appreciation and understanding of the blessings in their lives, and the vision and compassion to help others.

Thank you for your support!
